Bathrooms and Disposable Gloves

At some point during a con or cosplay, YOU WILL NEED TO GO TO THE BATHROOM, but if your arms/hands are covered in makeup/armsocks that you can’t take off you will be stuck with soiled hands the rest of the day. Nobody wants fecal matter or urine on  their body. You will smell disgusting and be a major health risk.

The solution: bring disposable latex gloves to put on then throw them away when your done! Your hands stay clean and you don’t have to reapply makeup/clothes! Get the one-wear kind doctors or lunch ladies wear, do not get dish gloves they are really expensive per pair!

You can find these for about $9 for 100 at Walmart

Here’s what I found for target

http://www.target.com/s?searchTerm=disposable+gloves&category=0%7CAll%7Cmatchallpartial%7Call+categories&lnk=snav_sbox_disposable+gloves

Walgreens has a lot of good deals as well $3.59 for 80

You can also find them online in places for REALLY CHEAP

I come to tell you guys about Mehron Colour Creamlend Stick! http://www.mehron.com/HYPERFORMANCE_CreamBlend_p/400.htm
This stuff is a miracle. I learned about it from my friend (who uses white to cosplay Animaniacs). It comes in a tube and is REALLY easy to rub/blend in. All you literally need to do is rub a VERY small portion on the areas where you want to be grey and then just… rub/spread the makeup. It its very easy to use. It took me literally 30 seconds to cover my entire hand and less than 5 mins to cover my face, and it feels nive on your skin. And, when you wanna wash it off, theres next to no residue. Also, its SUPER cheap.
I got mine on ebay for 9 bucks, free shipping. The Light Grey is perfect and requires 0 mixing, however this makeup is VERY good for blending if you wanna blend in blush for your characters. Also, they WHITE is amazing. Unlike Ben Nye, which is slightly translucent and makes you look like a Cullen (which is great if you wanna do a vampire/zombie), the Mehron white is opaque and doesnt show your skin under, so its perfect for rainbow drinkers and gamzees (if you apply it with a makeup brush).
I only did a test run and plan to use this at fanime. Again: Cheap, SUPER fast to apply, and has the perfect colour.

Cheap prices for big name brands + dirt cheap shipping + great customer service!!!

I’m not sure if this site has been mentioned before, but I just got done putting in an order for a site named Makeup Mania, and boy, for someone new to cosplaying, I just have to gush about how easy this site has made it for me.

They offer the Ben Nye Creme Colors set for $5.95 each (really cheap, compared to other sites where it’s up around $13 per container!), as well as the Final SealThe shipping is a jaw dropping $2.99, too (if you’re not in a rush!), so it’s good for people on a budget.

Best of all, the customer service was great. I sent my order through without adding the Final Seal on accident, and was pretty bummed when it seemed like I’d have to pay for shipping again just to get it added onto my order. But I looked up the phone number to get in contact with their corporate HQ, and the lady on there was very sweet and professional. She was able to add it on in a snap (my phone records show that I was on the phone with her for less than 2 minutes!).

In conclusion, this site has it all, as far as I’m concerned. I haven’t gotten my product yet, but as far as I’m concerned, if the product is as good as their service so far, I’m in good shape!

Mod note: Makeup Mania is a fantastic site! Although there are places where you can get Ben Nye creme colors for less than $5 a piece, the shipping on those places are much higher than $2.99 so it evens itself out.

Comparison photos between Ben Nye Proscenium Creme Foundation in Cadaver Grey (P-15) and Creme Color in Grey (CL-26). The latter makes a good contouring shade when using the former as foundation, as it is darker and more cool-toned.

Makeup website~

Hey everyone uvu

Thought I’d share the website where I do most of my Homestuck makeup shopping!

The site is Makeupmania,com!

They have Cadaver Grey which is a BIT pricier than normal, but it feels MUCH better on your skin than the creme colours (the ones everyone uses to mix grey and white) and its the perfect colour without needing to mix! I use it often!

They also have the Ben Nye Creme Colours a.k.a. the ones that everyone uses to mix~ The price is fairly cheap and, if youre in the U.S. the shipping is super cheap and amazingly fast~ I always get mine in less than a week!

They also have a variety of other kinds of makeup!

So yeah. Use this place. It’s p great.

Make up for the european cosplayers (And eyeliner Tip for everyone)

Okay, so because many people seemed to have trouble to find fitting make up for trolls and there is nearly no advice for europe, I went to a local drug store today (I am from germany, but I guess in most european countrys you will find the same brands), and tested products I found useful.

First off: Mascara. I bought two of the P2 Eyecather mascaras;image

They come in three colours and are perfect for the scorpios and libras! The best part is, that you can open the part above the silver thingie, and there is an eyeliner in the matching colour inside. One buy=fitting eyeliner and mascara!

Important: P2 has other coloured mascaras, like the “beauty insider”. Don’t buy it. I tried it and it looks more grey than anyting else. Loreal Paris has colourful mascaras too (even one in red), but they are also not that great and more expensive.

Tip: If you don’t have super light lashes, use concealer on them first! Put it on with your fingers, set it with translucent/transparent powder and add the mascara on top. The colour will turn out better.

Part 2: Lipstick:

Attention to all the pisces cosplayers! P2 is having a summer edition at the moment, with three lipsticks. image

The right one is the lipstick you want to buy. It looks a lot more pinkish in real life, and the colour is really vibrant. If you like your sea dwellers a little more fuchsia, this one is perfect!

Also, I got this one a while ago, when it was carnival season:image

Yeah, I know “carnival make up is bad…”. But this one surprised me. (okay, mine was black and not glittery, but it was from the same brand, even if I can’t find the name anywhere. But it looked like this, just black.)

The black was really nice and it left a smooth feeling. It is neither perfectly matte, nor glossy. Right inbetween, I guess? Well, it was definitely worth it, especially for such a low price! (under 2 Euro, I believe?). Even if we do not have carnival season, I am sure you will find this sort of lipstick in costume shops or on the internet.

Part 3: Eyeliner

It surprises me, that so many cosplayers still search for colourful eyeliner, when the solution is so easy!

Water+Eyeshadow=perfection

Search for a matte, vibrant eyeshadow. Use a gel liner brush. Make the tip a little wet, swipe it through the eyeshadow, blow off unnecessary clumps and eyeline the hell out of your eyeshadow. Really, it is that easy. Just find a good, strong eyeshadow.

And that’s it. I hope I could help one or two european homestucks :)

These would make great eyelashes for Vriska or Kanaya! I found these at Ulta. There are also purple ones that can be used for female Gamzee or Eridan!

A Few Ben Nye Tips (mostly sealing alternatives!)

Hi! I went to an official Ben Nye-certified costume shop to acquire my makeup. They had a huge setup, with all kinds of products in all kinds of colors. If you can, I highly recommend buying your makeup from a store rather than from online. Look, I even italicized the word “highly” because I recommend it so much. I bought almost everything that I needed - and the most important thing that I got was advice. The employee that helped us gave us a bunch of tips about applying and sealing the makeup.

Now, here are some great tips that the employee gave us!

  • Keep your Sealing Powder in a sock. (Preferably a clean one, but, hey, I’m not judging.) When you apply the powder, dab it onto your makeup using the sock. When you get more powder, just add more into the same sock. Keep the sock in a Ziploc bag, of course.
  • Instead of buying Final Seal, use hairspray. Wait, what? Yep, that’s right. It works like a charm! Just, uh…don’t open your eyes before the hairspray dries, because that’s not a lot of fun. Also, don’t apply the hairspray directly to your makeup, or it’ll probably just get all soggy. Spray some hairspray into a cloud, and then ENTER THE CLOUD. (That made no sense, sorry, but the basic idea is to spray the hairspray in front of you and then walk into it so that it gets on you without being applied directly onto your makeup.)
  • You can use no-conditioner baby shampoo to remove your makeup! This also works great. With a bit of light scrubbing, it comes right off. Awesome!
  • If your makeup has more than one color to it, (maybe the base is white, and there are separate red circles on your cheeks, or something) put on the base color, then powder it. Add on the next color after you powder the first. This is pretty important! Ben Nye is made so that the colors will blend together if you apply one color right over the next one. Powder, powder, powder!
  • It really helps to have people help you with your makeup, if you have servants available. Even if you don’t have access to a servant (hm, how quaint!), things are infinitely easier if you have a friend or family member help you out..even if they don’t know what they’re doing. You can have them hold stuff, or have them make sure that you aren’t smudging any un-powdered makeup on anything.
  • Another suggestion: don’t put a ton of makeup on your palms, especially if you have a convenient prop to hold. I put makeup on my fingers and the sides of my hands, but left the middle of my palm free so that I could keep some traction and grip on my chainsaw prop. People probably won’t be able to see your real skin unless if your pose involves a palm aimed right at the camera.)
  • SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Makeup reacts differently depending on your skin type. Do as much research as you can! I heard that Ben Nye works best for those with fair skin, though I’m not entirely clear as to what makeups are best suited for other skin types.

Makeup palatte

I found a makeup palatte on ebay that could be good for cosplayers. It has a large variety of colours, comes with some applicators, and has a mirror built in. It also has free shipping which means it doesn’t more than $26 Australian. It’s good for troll eyeshadows, human eyeshadows/blushes, and if you’re that type of person that wears makeup on a more regular basis then it has stuff for more every day wear.
