Before I ever cosplayed from Homestuck, I was doing a different cosplay that required a mouth full of shark teeth. I had MAJOR troubles finding a good way to do this, and spent hours upon hours searching and asking other cosplayers for their methods.
At long last I was lucky enough to find this beautiful, beautiful thing —-> http://faxen.deviantart.com/gallery/30770360#/d4tu47y
It’s basically a glue fake nails on a retainer method, which I had seen before, but the thing that people NEVER realize is that instead of going to the hassle of getting an expensive retainer and whatnot, you can just get this $5 or something bag of pelts from dental distortions and easily make your own retainer. All in all this method costed me about $11. And these teeth are seriously sturdy and stuff, and I always get complements on them.
(Another note: though just straight up pointy teeth are made here, of course you can lengthen two of the teeth to have pointy teeth + the longer fangs for someone like Gamzee or Tavros etc)
While we’re on the subject of dental distortions, as it mentions in the tutorial above, I would advise against the sharky teeth they sell there. Personally, I think they look somewhat unnatural and awkward, and do you REAAALLY want to blow $60 on them?
On the tutorial, I bought 2 packets as it says, but ended up only needing one to make the top row of teeth. This is because it’s harder to talk with two sets in, and people don’t really see your bottom teeth, anyways. Though if you want to look top notch fabulous for photoshoots, or are just a perfectionist, go for it.
With talking with the teeth in, if you have any sort of retainer type thing in your mouth you’re going to have a bit of a lisp, no matter what. I actually had quite a minor one with this, which was another good thing. And that actually wasn’t even a problem because….this also probably sounds SO weird, but if I spoke in a British accent I didn’t have any lisp AT ALL. I swear it’s true, don’t ask me how. >_> obviously not saying that’ll work for everyone, but hey…
Lastly, although this method is cheap, if you really don’t have ANY money and want to be able to talk as well as always then I would suggest this method ——> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8B2nKYuOB8o
ANOTHER thing people often don’t realize is that you can use liquid eyeliner instead of tooth black, as shown there. It honestly looks surprisingly good, while costing like, well…this is as cheap as it gets, folks. :P
Mod Note: I honestly wouldn’t suggest it. Tooth black is pretty cheap on its own, you don’t need to accidentally put things into your mouth that could harm you. Even if one kind does work, not all liquid eyeliners are made equal. If you are going to use that last tutorial, try it waaaay before a convention or meetup in case anything happens.
