Stuck on Homestuck Cosplay?
Dress of Eclectica-Where to buy

Okay, so I had been searching around my local Wal-Mart for cosplay items, and happened to come across a dress that seemed almost like it had been made for an Eclectica cosplay!

It was a Nobo tube dress in cerulean blue, and from what I have heard, Nobo is a Wal-Mart exclusive brand. It has four layers of ruffles, two more than needed but without them the dress would most likely be much too short to wear properly to any convention, and a silver mini belt that looks a lot like the one Jade wears on the dress. I have a picture of myself in the near completed cosplay, but excuse the poor lighting.

I added on the black undershirt myself, but everything else was purchased with the dress.

It is around $13 and can usually be located in the Juniors aisle, and because of my size that is the only place I look for clothes, so I’m not sure if there are any in larger sizes, although this is an XL, size 15-17, though it is somewhat big on me.

Overall, I’d say the dress makes a very good dress of Eclectica, is quite cheap, able to be easily bought from your local walmart (though i’m not too sure if this brand exists outside the United States, sorry) and is nice enough to wear on an outing with friends as well as too a convention. However, the length of the dress seems to only fall to about the middle of my thighs on a size somewhat large for myself, so please check your convention regulations or buy tights before attending a convention in one of these dresses, just so they don’t kick you for having a dress length be too short.

Tutorial for Jade ears

I found this great tutorial that is perfect for Jade’s Dog Tier ears; http://katsumiyo.deviantart.com/art/Animal-Ears-Tutorial-212073357

Here’s how they turned out for me; http://sandee4eyes.tumblr.com/post/49693845505/here-have-some-pics-of-my-new-dog-ears-i-made-for I definitely recommend this for everyone who wants to make their own ears. It’s easy to alter the shape of the front triangle if you want something longer or narrower (which I might do for myself).

I found these ears work very well with my wig and snap on securely.

They ship from Hong Kong, so they take about 6 - 10 day to arrive, but come at a good price ($4.99 + $3.99shipping)

Jade’s Dress of Eclectica

anonymonster:

I found an extremely simple yet fantastic guideline for making Jade’s Dress of Eclectica right here.

It doesn’t say anything about what to do with the sash in the middle and in my experience, if it is just tied on, it will bunch up and not look as good as it can.

So, my advice is, when adding the sash, spread it as wide as you want it (without bunching) and sew it onto the front half of the dress, or maybe even a little bit further. Then leave the tails on the back loose so that you can put on the dress and then tie them to tighten it.

Make sure to leave ruffles/folds in the dress as you sew on the bottom half of the sash, or else all of your ruffles will end up in the back of the dress.

Jade god tier tutorial and troll horn tutorial

This is a nice tutorial for a Witch God Tier hood!

http://mikay-chan.deviantart.com/art/God-Tier-Jade-Hood-Tutorial-294189406?offset=25#comments

My mum said when she saw it she was able to make it, but she wanted to make a few changes to the instructions so it would make more sense to her.

This is a pretty good tutorial for troll horns, I haven’t made them yet but they seem easy and relatively cheap to make!(It’s in two parts)

Mod Note: That tutorial for the horns looks great but I 100% do not recommend that attachment method. There is no reason a headband should be visible in a troll cosplay.
