Hair bun for Damara or the Handmaid

http://arda-wigs.com/products/hairbun

This is a really good bun for Damara or young Handmaid! Arda Wigs makes super good quality wigs and this is only $6. You can buy a medium length wig, style it for the base and then sew in the bun or secure it with pins.

Really good-looking Damara/Handmaid wig!

Here.

Really, all I would suggest is undoing the braids in the front!

Handmaid horns and huge Model Magic cracks

I made my Handmaid horns with a base of tin foil and covered it in Model Magic. When it dried, there were large cracks and ragged places that I couldn’t fix with wood filler like I usually would.

So I first sanded the entire surface and wrapped the cracks in Transpore medical tape for strength and stability. Then I covered ragged and rough edges and cracks with Rigid Wrap plaster tape, which looks like this:

These two tapes are really good if you are making anything with weak joints (like my handmaid horns) or if anything needs a smoother surface. The plaster tape can be cut into any shape, made smoother with varying amounts of water, and can be sanded and painted. It dries pretty fast too.

Handmaid Base Pattern

I was hunting around for dress patterns the other day and found this:

B5847

I thought it would make an excellent base for the handmaid

Brocade Fabrics for the Handmaid

damaramegido:

homestuckcosplayhelp:

Out of curiosity, I went on ebay looking for some more fabrics for the Handmaid! Please keep in mind that they seem to have a very long processing and shipping time, though, and they’re QUITE a good bit on the pricier side per yard, but if you can plan in advance, some of these would be fantastic for the Adult Handmaid’s dress!

The first is probably the closest, given the swirls are green and the background is black like in canon, but the others may do in a pinch! Remember to BUY WAY EARLY THOUGH from when you plan on making the outfit, and that most brocades are only 44” wide. so you may need more yards for something like this!

i honestly wouldn’t recommend any of these fabrics for the handmaid’s dress. the first one, while close in color, is inaccurate in both pattern and pattern sizing, and the latter three are not good choices at all.

rather than trying to work with brocade (which can be also be very difficult to work with if you are not experienced with a sewing machine), i suggest seeking out a damask print. if you can’t find the right color, get black and white damask in 100% cotton and dye it. the fabric will look much more accurate and will be much easier to work with.

The Handmaid - Shoes

Just found perfect shoes for The Handmaid over at target! I got mine for $20, and all you’d need to do is take off the small bow. They’re a great color, though.

So I was looking around for something for my young!Handmaid cosplay and I saw these.

I think these would look great for adult Handmaid! They’re  maybe a bit too pricey, at ~$30, but apparently on sale they’re ~$13? I might end up using these anyways, just because they’re sold relatively close to me and shipping things hate me. (And green shoes are a pain to find.)

I found this fabric when I was looking for some cloth for a Bec Noir cosplay. It looks like it would be almost perfect for a Handmaid dress! Found at Handcock fabrics!
