Stuck on Homestuck Cosplay?
Female!Trickster!John Links

I was looking online for my cosplay group’s trickster cosplays’ (More specifically mine), and I thought that I would share my findings with you guys!

The Pink Shirt/Dress thing

http://www.target.com/p/mossimo-supply-co-juniors-t-shirt-dress-assorted-colors/-/A-14236132#prodSlot=medium_1_2

This is perfect color and size for the shirt, but in my opinion the bottom needs some hemming to get the correct length. The neck also might be a bit too scoopy, but you could use the cape and bow to cover it if it bugs you like it bugs me.

Dark Pink Shorts

http://www.target.com/p/mossimo-supply-co-juniors-yoga-shorts-assorted-colors/-/A-14382949#prodSlot=medium_1_3

http://www.amazon.com/Active-Basic-Dance-Shorts-Colors/dp/B004Q6JT9C/ref=sr_1_1?s=athletic-clothing&ie=UTF8&qid=1368295767&sr=1-1

These are pretty much the same shorts, but in different shades of pink. The first is a lighter, rosier color, while the second is more of a magenta. If I’m not mistaken, the shorts should match the hood color, so I would advise you to purchase either the fabric or shorts first, then match try to match the color as closely as possible.

Glasses

http://www.amazon.com/Rosallini-Plastic-Square-Eyeglasses-Glasses/dp/B008ML0054/ref=sr_1_cc_2?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1368324557&sr=1-2-catcorr&keywords=Square+Pink+Frame+Glasses

My headcanon has Female!Trickster!John with pink framed glasses, so I found these adorable cheap glasses. If you prefer regular John glasses, then I would suggest searching the John Mastertag.

Light Blue Shoes

http://www.amazon.com/Pam-01-fashion-designer-inspired-comfort/dp/B00CBR9WEK/ref=sr_1_45?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1368325953&sr=1-45&keywords=Blue+Flats

http://www.amazon.com/Pam-01A-fashion-designer-inspired-comfort/dp/B00CGE9QO4/ref=pd_sbs_shoe_2

The first are glittery, but they are a more accurate color, and it might fit someone’s headcanon. The second look like they are the right color, but the lighting in the picture could be hiding a greener shade than what we’re looking for.

Pink Thigh Highs

http://www.amazon.com/Leg-Avenue-Striped-Thigh-Highs/dp/B004K3YV1W/ref=sr_1_46?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1368326145&sr=1-46&keywords=pink+striped+thigh+highs

http://www.amazon.com/Music-Legs-Opaque-Striped-Thigh/dp/B008GOUT5I/ref=sr_1_30?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1368326145&sr=1-30&keywords=pink+striped+thigh+highs

These pairs both have bows on them, but the first have frilly garterbelts, and the second just have the bows. I’ve seen people cosplay Female!Trickster!John, and some of them decided to use these tights for a really cute effect. If you want regular thigh highs, you could either search the Trickster Masterpost, or you could order the second and cut off the bows.

Lollipop

http://ducktapestuck.tumblr.com/post/29855283867

I couldn’t find any good blue lollipops anywhere, so I found this tutorial and I figured that you could create a great looking lollipop for dirt-cheap.

And that’s all I have for Female!Trickster!John. If you’re wondering why there isn’t a wig on here, it’s because I am using my own hair for this, and I figured that it is probably really easy to find a good blond wig anywhere. Also, I would suggest keeping enough extra fabric from the hood cape for the bow, and look up a good tutorial on how to tie a large bow.

Plus Size Fem Eridan Leggings

http://www.torrid.com/torrid/NewArrivals/FeaturedAssortments/NewArrivals//Black+amp+White+Vertical+Striped+Leggings-10003270.jsp# Just dye em blue to match your scarf, perfect if you’re doing a female Eridan :3 I suggest you try on any of their leggings in store to see your size. They run large but I think a size 1 will fit if youre average/slim.

Great for Genderbends!

Hi there, I’m currently working on a femDave and femDirk and wanted to make a dress out of the official homestuck shirts. While poking around online I found this great tutorial for how to turn a large t-shirt into a fitted dress.

Tutorial Link: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-baggy-shirt-into-a-T-shirt-dress/?ALLSTEPS

I personally bought a guys t-shirt for both cosplays in the largest sizes available (2XL for Dave’s and 4XL for Dirk) and they go down to my knees (I’m about 5’1”).

wet seal

A really great place to buy cosplay stuff is actually Wet Seal, believe it or not. My friend and I have found tons of stuff there, like a baseball tee that would work fantastic for Fem!Dave and she also bought her whole Fem!Dave Red Plush Tux cosplay there (minus the bowtie.)
Here is the Wet Seal website if you do not have one in your area: http://wetseal.com/home.jsp

And here is the tee that would work great with Fem!Dave: http://www.wetseal.com/catalog/product.jsp?categoryId=0&subCategoryId=0&productId=59581&color=WHITE

Just sift around there and see if you can find anything!

Fantastic Fem!John Wig!!

This is a really good wig! I know some people are real iffy about eBay so there’s something I found on Amazon!

Cool2day is a actually really great! They’ve got amazing wigs and good service! I recommend them!

This wig is also good if you prefer a short haired fem!John. It could possibly work for Jane as well.

Good luck!

Fem!Trickster Dave Wig

THIS is the wig I found while searching this page. It was on one of the links to a wig seller on page 12, I believe. It is supposed to be for Jizzybro’s designs. I haven’t bought it yet, so I don’t know what it actually looks like on someone, but I am planning on buying it for Comic-Con next year, if I even have the chance to go!!! >u< Anyways, I really hope this helped some people. uvu

Well it depends on what sort of hairstyle you’re looking to do for him. A lot of people seem to do a spiky look, so something like this should work well!

Hey, just looking for some general advice! 1) I am attempting to make a BARBER'S BEST FRIEND, and I was wondering what you think I should do for the "blades". Styrofoam wouldn't last, but perhaps severely starched grey fabric connected with fishing wire? 2) I am also going to attempt a fem!John cosplay based on a picture by one of the amazing Tumblr artists. In it, John wears a hooded dress, pettiskirt, and wedge-heels. Should I make the dress out of a knit and where could I find plain wedges?

Even starched fabric probably won’t be stiff enough to pass as metal, nor will it be shiny at all. You could get a cheap bit of sheet metal and use tin snips to very carefully cut out a bunch of small razors and attach them to a umbrella skeleton (you can probably find a suitable umbrella at a thrift store).

This person used duct tape at the ends of their umbrella skeleton, and it looks pretty good.

As for the fem!John cosplay, I would have to see a picture, but usually I would say no to using a knit unless the dress has a defined waist, and even then, know that stretchier knits are very difficult to sew straight.

A quick search on google of “yellow wedges” has returned a vast multitude of choices, including this, this, and this. I’m not really sure what you’re looking for, but if you browse around and figure out what style and model of shoe you want, you can easily search for which stores carry it. Protip: call your local department stores (which you just searched through online and have confirmed that they carry those shoes) and ask them if they have that specific style of shoe in stock, and if they do, politely ask if you can have one in your size taken off the shelf for you to come buy before you set off. They may not always let you do this, but then you at least know they have the right shoe.

Best of luck!
