I’m planning on cosplaying Aranea and a genderbent Summoner for a con this august, so I thought I’d share some of what I’ve found in terms of make-up! Cut for wordiness.

If you’re gonna try to be cheap on your outfits, but you want to use a hood, here you go! http://www.zentai-zentai.com/white-lycra-zentai-morph-body-suit-hood-products-939.html
Though I’m pretty sure you already knew that! Best of luck to my fellow homestuck cosplayers.

I know some people might not have actual eyebrow piercings (likeme), and probably struggle to get fake piercings on (oratleastIdo…) So I found an easier way! Well since I’m going to cosplay her soon, thought I might want to find an alternative to get those on. So after fiddling around and testing out how goggles (that’s what I plan on using) will work with my eyebrows, I started to think “how am I suppose to fit my piercings over the suc-…ooooohhhh”. And after a little bit of bendy metal and pinching, I got this: http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn283/deb_ok/061812203815.jpg They look realistic from afar, not so much as up close: http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn283/deb_ok/FxCam_1340077031302.jpg But if you don’t want to pinch your ‘brows, I think this would be your best next thing. (P.S. Those are just my test goggles. Also I’m on mobile, so I could only do links to photos DX.)

…as advertised in this post, I use that exact color. It generally ends up looking like this:

(Ignoring the fact that I put this makeup and polish on at about midnight and was a little bit careless with it. Don’t be careless like that, trust me.)
It dries quickly when you put on the first coat, just don’t try to make it really thick when you put it on. It does not dry fast when you apply it thick. It does, however, have a very nice color, and it dries very smoothly. And if you get a little bit of Ben Nye on your nails (I did by accident), it will not run while painting, and when you want to take it off, it peels off very easily because of the makeup underneath, but won’t chip or scratch while it’s worn.

Mod #2 here, just wanted to warn everyone that I’ve taken it upon myself to completely streamline the tags again. So don’t freak out if things disappear from a tag or if a few links are broken - I’m working on it!
The goal here is to decrease the number of tags on each post, while increasing the precision of the tags. I’ll be lessening overlap and trying to make it as easy as possible for you to click on the tag list, find the topic you want information on, and scroll through only a few pages of relevant posts.
This is going to take a few days! Fun fact, homestuckcosplayhelp has 178 pages of posts, mostly thanks to the efforts of you wonderful followers. I’m going through and retagging each one manually, and after that, I’ll be updating every master guide (and hopefully making a few more).
A quick rundown of what’s changing: I’ll be breaking up a few bigger tags. For example, “makeup” has been split into makeup, troll makeup, and makeup removal. I’ll be reducing overlap: horns and trolls will not be put onto the same posts. This way, the trolls tag can contain information pertinent to every troll without being clogged by the immense number of horns posts (which are specific enough to warrant their own tag). I’ll be adding a few missing tags: you guys will soon have tags for tricksters and dreamers, among other tags! I’ll also be adding a reviews tag for posts that fix or give insight to other posts. Depending on how well this goes, I may or may not be able to link the reviews into the posts they modify. And lastly, I’ll be reformatting the tag list so the tag you need is easier to find.
Hopefully, this will make the tags quick and easy to browse! So please, after the days of work that are going to go into this project, please look through the tags before asking or submitting anything. Us mods truly appreciate it. <3
I have seen ALOT of Tavros cosplayers, or other trolls with large horns (I.E. Aradia) with small and/or sagging horns, where as mine stay up straight, and they are REALLY heavy duty! (Light weight too! :D) I have heard that model magic/sculpy is REALLY heavy and or breaks really easily, and I have a easy fix! It may take a few days, because you’re paper mache-ing, but TRUST ME. Its worth it!
I thought that this tutorial would work VERY well for a god tier hood! http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=246171.0
Mod Note: As has been pointed out before, it looks even better if you curve the outer hood down instead of up or straight out! This pattern doesn’t include the cape part of the hoodcape, so you’ll have to use another tutorial or figure it out on your own.

what i did was take an ordinary wooden spoon my mom had, and painted it a darker shade of red using acrylic paint with a sponge brush. it came out fine!

For those just dying to cosplay the newly revealed trickster!Roxy, the cotton candy in her hair seemed like a bit of a challenge (at least to me.) However, if you dye some polyfill stuffing, stick it in a cone and attatch it to a headband ala troll horns, I think it could work as a slightly better alternative than sticking cotton candy in your wig!

I think these shoes could work for pretty much any kid cosplay. I own a pair in black and they’re really comfortable and well made considering how inexpensive they are.

So people, it appears that youve all been using those horrid plastic 3D glasses when it comes to Sollux if you hadnt been able to make your own. Well, Ive found better options for you. I bought these a while back, and they work pretty well:
http://www.sourcingmap.com/full-frame-magenta-cyan-lens-anaglyph-eyeglasses-p-100410.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campaign=usfroogle
They take a few weeks to ship/get to you since theyre from China, but theyre pretty spiffy.
Also, this Etsy user sells Sollux generic red and blue oval glasses for cosplay usage, as well as black Kamina glasses (and the Squirtle Squad glasses, which are a bit smaller then Kamina’s), red sunglasses, Hetalia glasses, Sailor Moon glasses, and he even takes commissions for new styles of glasses! How spiffy is that?

He’s pretty skilled at what he’s done, I bought my Sollux glasses from him as well as my America glasses, and if youre in California the glasses get there in about a week! Im thinking of having him make some Vriska glasses for me. 8D (I have a pair, but itd be cool to have original glasses.)

I know a lot of people have posted about troll nail paint, but I really, really like the stuff I use. I recommend it to anyone. (I think the color is more canon than all of the others)
Plus, It’s fast-drying, and I can be very impatient when it comes to waiting for my nails to dry.
It’s called Lightning from Sally Hansen.
(the real stuff looks a little more yellow-ey orange irl.)

So, I was at Ronjo’s the other day and the guy working there suggested Paradise face paint to me. I was looking through the make-up tag and I don’t think I saw anything about it? I think it’s expensive, but I don’t know how much more comes in a thing than Ben Nye if it is more? But to anyone who needs it, here’s the link:

I finished this the other day. Thought it might be useful to folks!
I recently bought a pair of Dolfino Youth Goggles, which are perfect for cosplaying as Feferi! They’re about $8 for a pack, and you can find them at Wal-Mart.

I found these at Forever 21. With tax, they were only around 11 dollars. The tongue is striped red and white, but a bit of Sharpie can fix that. I plan on using a bit of white acrylic paint to paint on the 4 dots near the tongue. They also seem to have decently thick soles, which is a nice surprise for a shoe so cheap and of that style, so you can walk around a con for a whole day (or weekend) and not have much of a problem.
