Hey wow this is dumb
yaexrae: If I don’t get Dolorosa done for Colossalcon, I figured I’d at least throw up some progress pictures because this underskirt is taking forever to piece together.  It may also help some people be better informed about how ridiculously STUPID this method is for making stripes.  Read More Some interesting methods for Dolorosa!

Youknowit contacts
While I have ordered and been happy with the contacts I’ve recieved from this website, I believe they are partly a third-party website. For example, at one point I ordered a pair of red contacts, and they worked out fantastic! However, a while ago I ordered a pair of pink. When I opened the envelope, the packaging was a bit different. I didn’t think anything of it until I put them in....

I recently made horns out of stuff just lying around the house. I dont have any model magic clay or anything of the sort and didnt have money, but I found some foam and duct tape. I cut the foam in the shape of the horn and went around the exterior with duct tape, then painted it (heavily) with acrylic paint. Now, I made Terezi horns and clearly this wouldnt work for, prolly most of the trolls....

Another Tavrisprite wig
I bought this wig, it’s slightly curlier than in the picture and the perfect colour/length in my opinion. I also bought this wig for Terezi. Requires a minimal amount of styling if you’re not good with that stuff (like me).

removing makeup from fabric
Just thought I’d chime in and put this here for everyone’s benefit after helping a friend with this - carbona stain devils number 6 (for grass, dirt and makeup) is wonderful for removing theatrical makeup from costumes. It comes in a little yellow bottle and looks like this: This is the go-to stuff for all of the costume shops I’ve worked for and it works wonderfully. Just be...

Vriska, March Eridan, and Jane.
Magic 8 ball: link Robo: hand   this seems pretty good for the arm Wings: I would form wire into the frame of the wings and pull pantyhose over it. Then, I would take some fabric paint, [or glitter and glue] to add in the details. This could also work for Aradia. Wig: link 1 link 2 link 3 For March Eridan, I would buy one of these wigs and sew in a purple weft. Here are some good wigs,...

Jade's Lunchtop Design
I made this for my lunchtop a while back, then fired up Illustrator the other night to smooth out the lines so I can share it with everyone. I know a lot of you like to draw your own, but for those of you who may be strapped for time or just plain don’t wanna, I offer you this. The dimensions roughly match those of the lunchboxes offered on that one website that was mentioned a few pages...

In my inbox are three glowing reviews and one that states that the user’s eyes got irritated after three hours, but that may have just been your own eyes being sensitive to the contacts. So it seems legit, thank you to the submitter who gave us the link!

Hi! I have yet another suggestion for Terezi shoes. I bought these bad boys, and hot glued buttons to them. I like the look of the suede, and I also like that there aren’t any white rubber parts to the shoe. I would be cautious about going with them if you have large and/or wide feet, as they are a bit pointy and narrow, and I strongly suggest not using them if you’re doing the skinny...

Cheap colored prescription contacts!
So I did a little research, and I found a site called youknowit.com. If you give them your prescription, you can get a pair of of colored contacts with that prescription. There are many types, including orange, red, black, pink, purple, etc. While I haven’t found any full eye contacts yet, there are sections for specific cosplay contacts. Even though it’s an England based site,...

Cheap glasses
zennioptical.com You can order them in prescription or clear, and they have really good selection, at a reasonable price. Everyone in my family who wears glasses buys from them, and the only real problem is how long it takes for them to make and ship them, so don’t order right before a con or anything. submitted by joyusscarecrow

Rather than spending money on mascara that you’ll probably only use for one costume, you can use just a plain white mascara, and just paint over it with any color liquid eyeliner. If it’s too clumpy you can use a clean mascara brush to “comb” your lashes out. It’s a lot easier to find colored liquid liner in local stores, than it is to find colored mascaras. ...

For anybody looking into a Tavrisprite cosplay
I believe that these wigs seem decent: this this this this or this i personally wouldn’t worry so much about the shade of blue, but i know that a lot of people would. in regards to meenah, somebody on deviantart told me that this is a good wig and that it fits comfortably. another option that somebody told me is to braid a long black wig and put a short wig over it. an idea that i...

Cheap Troll Horns
So basically, instead of making horns out of model magic, you can just print them out with paper. They look relatively nice, but perhaps a little boxy. If theyre too boxy but you want to use the model as a base, then you print it out in white, fill it with newspaper, cover it in bondo and resin and then paint it :) Cheap, lightweight results either way! Heres a link to download all the...

When making foil horns...
Alrighty, about foil horns.  I found that if you try to scrunch it up into a ball or something similar to that, it will not work well. At all. If you try to roll it and scrunch it at the same time, it works a lot better.  And if you try to cover your horns with Scotch tape, chances are it will end badly.  Your fury will spill out your windows, and flatten some innocent hobo just outside, like...

More tips on making horns out of Model Magic.
Since a lot of Homestucks out there (including myself) use Model Magic for their horns, i thought I’d share something i noticed while making a few pairs of horns: If you use “older” MM cracks won’t form. (By “Older” I mean you didnt start making the horns right after opening up the bag of MM. In my case, i had my extra clay zipped tight in a baggie for a week...

Making your own wig cap from pantyhose!
This isn’t just for Homestucks, but I thought you guys would like to see it. (Copy-pasted from my blog, sorry if it comes out weird) First, here’s what you’ll need. So my John and I were at Michaels yesterday and I found a bag of craft loops, and I immediately remembered that I needed Jade’s finger reminders! Terezi Flarp/Redglare Tips
For those making a dragon cane, either for Redglare or Flarping Terezi, I suggest you make a wire frame out of something like a hanger and then stuff it with tin foil and hold it together with masking tape.  I used this method and it holds the shape really nicely.  You then can cover it with Model Magic and paint it. Also for those making either Terezi Flarping outfits or Redglare ones, keep in...

UK Faygo Supplier
Hello! I recently purchased some Faygo from a site called http://www.americanfizz.co.uk/ which is a UK retailer of American goodies. Troll Nail Polish Option
I haven’t used this in costume yet, but I think it might be a good nail polish. It’s Clair’s Mood Nail Polish- Daring/Innocent. It changes between a gray (when cold) and a light yellow (when warm). Some canon pics of trolls don’t show the nail color, so gray could work for cosplay and other times yellow is shown on troll nails. I think this is a good compromise :) Here are...

Regarding Horns
I know it might be easier, and cheaper to make your horns out of Paper Mâché, or something along those lines, but trust me when I say: Invest in clay for the horns. They may be heavier, and require more work, but nothing makes me like a cosplay less when the cosplayer has everything perfect, and the horns are lumpy. I know you might be spending your money on something else for your cosplay, but...

Two-for-one deal: horn tips and scottie dogs.
Okay, the first bit is something I shared with the folks over at Sweet Arts and Hella Crafts. I think the folks here might be able to put it to good use too, though. How to remove PAX paint.
I know this sounds crazy but it’s worked for me. Step one. Soak in the shower, but instead of a body wash, use a hand soap. Step two. RE: Kryolan
i use kryolan myself because it’s lighter on the face. so if you have sensitive skin, kryolan is a good choice because it doesn’t gunk up and clog everything ever! and yes, it is water activated so a little bit of water will make the paint go on nice and even. one thing i want to stress though is to use a STIPPLING motion with kryolan, especially because there’s a little bit of...

Poor Man's PAX
I was painting troll symbols on shirts with Tulip Soft Matte fabric paint the other day, and some of the paint got on my arm. I didn’t clean it off right away and once it had dried I noticed that it wouldn’t rub off, but came off easily in water. I decided to do some trial runs to see if it would stay on as well in large amounts -thus was born Poor Man’s PAX. Picture intensive...

The importance of makeup testing.
This is just a small mod note, but I recently got a message warning about Kryolan final seal and how it damaged the skin of the person who was telling me about it. No matter what the makeup is, and even if you have like no allergies at all, it’s very important to test anything you put on your skin (especially your face) somewhere else first. Always apply a spot of makeup, in full, to your...
