Seatroll ears

I noticed this post about seatroll ears, and wanted to inform everyone of these ones as well.

They’re currently not in production/waiting for renewal, but once they get it, I think they’d make fabulous fins/gills!

A little tip for Terezi/Sollux glasses

I live in Brazil, so I normally think it’s hard to find good stuff with good price… I was in a biiiiig problem to cosplay Terezi just because of the glasses (and the bodypaint), and Sollux too, but a friend helped me!!

She said that I could buy clear lenses glasses and paint the lenses with Varnish. I bought a bottle of a thing that could be translated as “Stained Glass Varnish” if I’m thinking right. I tested it and got a good result! If you use the right tools in transparent things it would work good as hell…

It’s not the best option, but if you are in a hurry and/or don’t have how to order the right glasses, it could save your cosplay.

As I have an opportunity, I want a little help too… I said I live in Brazil, and ordering things online are just terrible if I order from the USA, since I get no tracking number for stuff from there. But, I know that brazilian stuff tends to lack quality, and I don’t know how to proceed with my makeup for a troll cosplay… I have two options: Buying some cake/aqua based makeup I could find in my place (it is quite cheap too) or order some makeup on the internet. If I order, I have the chance to get my pack lost, and I couldn’t buy any makeup, since I didn’t find any place that ships Ben Nye Creme Makeup to Brazil for a good price… And I read somewhere that seals couldn’t be shipped to my place because they’re hazardous. (I guess it’s flammable…?) I considered the option of buying Paradise Makeup AQ, but it could be very expensive and could get lost. I don’t know what’s the best option… Buying stuff here in my place or buying from the USA, but with the chance of never getting my makeup…If you could help me I would be happy. <:

Sorry if I’m bothering, since it’s the submit box and I don’t know if I helped anyone with the tip for the glasses!

Feferi's skirt pattern theory!

Ok. So, you want to cosplay Feferi? But…dat skirt. Oh man, no, not that skirt!! WHAT EVEN IS THAT IT’S LIKE NOT EVEN A SKIRT. But wait!! It’s not so horrific, really!! In fact, it’s quite simple! Yes, simple!!!
:D I’ve made a sloppy pattern here(not suitable for printing purposes, I haven’t actually tested it unless making a miniature paper one counts):

WOAH WHAT HUH

This is it. Ok mini prediction/walkthrough:

OK, FIRST OFF YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS IS A BACK VIEW OF THE PATTERN! IF YOU WANT A FRONT VIEW PRETEND THE COLORS ARE SWAPPED AND THE PINK IS ON THE OTHER SIDE. Sorry I don’t want any confusion!! Okay—You see those thick yellow lines? Those are where the pattern would seperate. I’m not sure about the two side ones but the middle one, duh, that’s where the colors seperate (ignore that it goes onto the pink if you’re using normal fabric for that). Now, how this works is like a wrap. The side with the purple line (blue half) wraps around (backwards sorry) to overlap the green. And it’s as simple as that! Not sure how to attach yet…? Velcro? Snaps? Inside button? idk.

Anyways I’ll be making a prototype soon, and I’ll be sure to post that. If all goes well I’ll get the final thing up here soon too! :D

(Another note: Unless you totally and completely understand this pattern and aren’t confused by my stupid back view of it, I wouldn’t suggest trying it quite yet…if you’re patient I should be back in a few days or up to a week with my prototype <3)

These might be good for last-minute emergencies.

These are Sollux and Gamzee Papercraft horns. They are supposedly good for those dreaded last minute emergencies, for example, if your nice clay horns crack just before a con or a meetup. I haven’t tried to use them personally, but I will follow up on this as soon as I can get a chance.

submitted by xionlovesapples

Mod Note: I agree that this should ONLY be used for last minute emergencies. Paper horns are pretty much done with life after a couple of hours at the con and one mess up and they’re toast, but they’re a good resource in case you NEED a quick solution.

kanaya horns attached to barrette clips

i guess the method i used was a little different than what people usually do

for my kanaya cosplay, im not using a wig because of the hairstyle (it’s 20sstuck!kanaya), so i didnt want to use a headband cause itd be way too obvious

so i used this method and kinda made it up as i went

-

i started out by bending a paper clip (two techinically) so that the shorter loop is flat, and the longer loop is straightened out like in the picture below

image

then i clipped on a regular size barrette to the flat part

image

so it basically just clips into your hair like this

image

image

then i covered the two in tin foil and added the hook to one of them

image

image

then i used some floral tape so wrap them up to keep them together better and kinda squish them into the right shape

image

image

i opened the clip and wrapped the floral tape around it and also through the paperclip base loops to secure it

image

they stay on really well. i could shake my head around and upside down and they were really secure

image

after finishing the structure, i rolled out some model magic and covered the horns with it

image

and now i guess im just waiting for them to dry

after this, i will be spackling them to fill in any cracks, sanding them down, then painting them with the appropriate yellow, orange, and red, then spraying them with an acrylic sealant.

you could use this method for pretty much any of the troll with little horns (so probably just karkat, terezi, kanaya, maybe nepeta depending on your headcannon for the size of her horns, and maaaaybe sollux? although that would be a lot of clips and might make your head hurt)

Cute idea for a nepeta prop!

Ok, so im currently putting a Nepeta cosplay together and about a week ago I had this amazing idea for a prop. I am planning on carrying around a small sketchpad and a box of crayons to draw ships/ other homestuck cosplayers that I see at the convention. I think that it is a cute way to incorperate the idea of Nepeta’s shipping wall into a cosplay and also a graet way to show off your ships! I plan on purchasing a sketchpad small enough to fit into the cosplay coat that I have purchassed along with the 24 pack of crayons that I have. I want to do this at AWA even though it is still a ways away.

Terezi chalk!!

Alright so, for the chalk maybe you could use one of those SpiderMan candy sticks!! I’ve never had them in an awful long time so I’m not sure if they’re too skinny. I guess you could get them from when it’s Halloween. You might be able to get them at one of those Ice cream trucks that sell other items. They’re probably like a dollar for a box. (If you have one that is) The candy sticks can just be like just Marvel boxes. You could order a big giant pack like this one that comes with 30 boxes. Each box comes with 10 sticks.  You could get them http://www.candywarehouse.com/occasions/animated-and-super-hero-characters/products/spiderman-candy-sticks-packs-30-piece-box/

Sacramento costume shop

I’d like to vouch for Evangeline’s in Old Sacramento as I used to live there, but another place to try in Downtown Sacramento is Cheap Thrills.  They have a lot of props that can be useful, as well as wigs, if I remember right.  It’s a smaller shop, but definitely worth looking at.

Ben Nye "Troll Grey" vs. Snazaroo Light Grey

devioustofu:

Hey there! I’m writing this up to help fellow Homestuck cosplayers. In this little demonstration, I will compare the Ben Nye “troll grey” (created combining white and grey makeup with this tutorial) with Snazaroo’s light grey makeup. :)

Eridan Cape

For Eridan’s cape, I ordered it off this website here:

http://www.corazonfairtrade.com/lucaad.html

It comes in tons of different colors, has a nice stand up collar, and is relatively cheap. They also have kid sizes if you want to dress up your little brother as a royalblood. Its really nice and looks just like Eridan’s cape! <3

Feferi Necklaces

So I was looking around at some DIY videos on youtube and I found this.

It looks like you could make some pretty good Feferi necklaces and a couple of of her bracelets from it if you just edit it slightly.

More Dirk/Bro glasses!

Here and here, although the second pair might look a little goofy, what with the size. Bigger and Kamina-esque, you know. But whatever floats your boat~

They’re also $10 cheaper than the other Dirk glasses posted on here (“Pokemon Squirtle”) a little while ago.

(P.S. Check out more of that guy’s stuff! He has plenty of other cool animu glasses, including a pair that could work for Sollux. c: )

Some executive decisions regarding submissions.

Just a few notes because we’ve been getting a lot of submissions like these lately:

  1. We will no longer be publishing submissions that recommend specific local locations to shop at or that sell certain items. At first it was fine, but in this last batch of 50, 10 were all recommendations for local shops and stores that sell Faygo or other things. Unless it’s a general store found everywhere (such as “Dollar General sells Faygo!” or other chains that can be found in many states or countries) it won’t be posted. There’s just too much and each post doesn’t apply to enough people.
  2. That being said, if anyone wants to make a blog that’s entire purpose is to just let people submit useful costume shops, feel free. We would do it but HSCH takes up our inbox enough as it is. If you make it, go ahead and drop a link in the submit box and we’ll pimp you out and affiliate with you! just be prepared to keep it up.
  3. The queue currently posts 5 times a day (thinking of bumping it up to 10) so things tend to get backed up. Please don’t submit your idea like four times. It’ll post. Trust me.
  4. Also we’ve started being a little more selective with what we put through submissions. We put through about 80-90% of what we get, but if you don’t see yours go through after a few weeks, it’s probably because it’s been submitted before. I just had like four people submit links to some papercraft horns, and only one is getting posted for obvious reasons. Also if something just seems like bad advice it’s not going through. Someone a couple months ago submitted that you should use acrylic paint as troll makeup. not with PAX, just the paint. Another person suggested painting contacts. Like, painting them. Things like that, or things that we feel may not be the best of ideas versus what’s already on here, don’t make it through. Again, that’s rare, but it happens.
  5. Also please stop using Opera to submit stuff, it’s still glitching really bad and the text doesn’t show up.

Anyway, that’s really it! Thanks so much for your submissions, they’re all great! :)
