Holding Up Your Horns
Hey! I recently did a Karkat cosplay and I had a bit of trouble with the horns until I had help. My horns turned out alright, but I can’t guarantee they’ll be the best horns. This is sort of a “low budget” fix. What I did was make the horns around a fishing bob, cut holes into it, and pushed a headband through the holes to make the horns sit on the headband. Cut small holes...

colorfulchicken asked: Would one 2.5 oz container of Kryolan gray face paint be fine for just doing my face? I've heard it's a nearly perfect shade of gray? Is it or would I have to get a white as well? I know it's aqua based but I heard baby powder can be a setter for it for a day or two. please help! c:

To that person who was having the major issues with the model magic and Tavros horns, I actually had a bunch of cracks in my Nepeta horns, because I put the model magic on kind of derpy and smoothed it out strangely. Even so, I used some lightweight spackle that doesn’t shrink and it worked wonders! Actually, I wouldn’t even bother layering or fixing cracks with model magic, it shrinks...

To those cosplaying large-horned (or...
Model Magic may seem like a really great idea. Especially with a foil core. Super lightweight and no trouble at all!
WRONG. It will be a waste of your money and your time.
Maybe this is just my experience or maybe I just don’t know how to use Model Magic properly. Anyways, I made Tavros horns using model magic with a foil core. CRACKS GALORE. Unfixable cracks. While it was drying I noticed...

Anonymous asked: Hi, so, I'm going to try to cosplay as Feferi! I'm making her jewelry and I'm stuck as to what color to paint her necklace, crown, anklets, and bracelets. I'm trying to go by her Alterniabound sprite, but I'm not sure whether to paint them yellow or a metallic gold. Which do you think would work out better, yellow or metallic gold? And I'm trying to find a good...

Semi-Realistic Troll Horn Tutorial
I know there are a kajillion of horn tutorials out there already, but I ended up using a method to make my horns that I haven’t seen written about yet. So just in case you guys are curious, here’s how I made my troll horns.
Click here for the full tutorial - my apologies that I’m linking to it, but it’s super long and I don’t want to kill everyone’s...

What would be an awesome prop for Eridan? I know he’s got the wand and whatnot, but could someone go the extra mile and make his lusus as well?
I have a friend who already made a seahorse and she made a step by step as well. Do you think it’s possible to make his lusus and use it as a prop?
Mod Answer: If you can do it, hellllllll yes. Perhaps you could make an oversized plush of...

Some Sollux Tips
Sorry for the really long post but here’s some snippets of advice for Sollux cosplay.
Okay so firstly for the glasses, I’ve seen lots of people complaining about how glass paint bubbles or something, so I had an idea and I was actually shocked at how well it worked. I bought some of the old-school type 3d glasses from ebay for about £1 for 4 pairs. Then I took the lenses themselves...

Great Wig Site!
Lately, I’ve been getting almost all of my cosplay wigs from http://www.divatress.com They’re high-quality wigs intended for everyday use, and a lot of them are around the same price as crappy Party City wigs - like $20-30 - even for lace-fronts. They ship out fast, too. They don’t have a lot of crazy animu colors or whatever, but if we’re talking Homestuck cosplay, you...

John God-Tier Tips
So, at the last minute I decided to throw together two John cosplays, the major one being the aforementioned God Tier. I went desperately in search of shoes, and from experience I do bring a few tips.
First of all, avoid buying really expensive shoes at all costs. Get your hands on a cheap pair of comfy white shoes, preferably flat and canvas-based for the actual body of the shoes. I found that...

Horn-to-Head tip
If you’re working with clay horns: poking can tabs into the bottom of the horns and then stringing elastic or a ribbon through them. And so it wont be poking into your head, make a little cave into the bottom of it and push it in. (I’m not able to make a diagram, so I hope you understand my horrible description.) It may not sound like the best idea ever, but it lasted longer than the...
okay this isnt really advice! but you cant send pictures through ask box or anything :T
do you think this wig is okay for femkarkat? maybe it would also be a bit better if i messed it up a bit?

A couple tips for Rose and others
I recently cosplayed Grimdark Rose for a con, and here’s a couple of things I’d like to share.
Here’s a good wig. Average cost, good quality, doesn’t require much styling. Perfect for a beginner or someone who just doesn’t want to mess with a lot of styling. Plus, it travels very well which is a real plus if you’re taking this show on the road.

Bro/Sis Strider Glasses
So I’ve seen a few questions on here on making Bro/Sis Strider glasses, and I thought I’d try my hand at giving advice, as I made a pair and was going as Sis until I lost them.
Right, so;
What I did was I went to Home Depot and bought a sheet of clear plexiglass. It was about 9x11” (not sure of the exact size, as I cut it up and don’t have the label any more) and about...

Dogtier Jade Ears
Just felt like it would be worth mentioning that a good friend of mine does commissions for ears like these, meaning if you need these for your dogtier Jade cosplay, there you are! They’re $7 USD plus shipping and he can have them done within the day if you’re short on time!
Just thought this would be worth sharing~

GRAY MAKEUP: There have been several proposed ways to make your skin gray. Read through to see the pros and cons, and then decide what you might want to do! We recommend Ben Nye because we have found it is the best quality makeup for your money, and because of how much information there is about it online. As a word of caution, Ben Nye does tend to look blue even when mixed properly. There...

To the Anon about dying shoes!
Hey hey there. My friend dyed some shoes for a cosplay at one point; you can do it with RIT dye the same way you’d dye a clothing piece, but you have to be careful of a few things. First, the shoes need to be a FABRIC material; Kmart, Target, ect all make white, fabric shoes that are super-cheap and easy to work with (it’s what we used). Second, if you’re going to dye the laces...

Another option to alter for Terezi's glasses
http://www.amazon.com/Red-Vixen-Costume-Glasses/dp/B0058J9A4U These would be pretty easy to alter considering you aren’t cutting the actual lens. Still not completely accurate without those long thingies, but honestly I think they’d be close enough. They’re pretty cheap too. :P

How To: Run A Successful Panel/Panel Etiquette.
Hey everyone! Mod #1 here! Ive been meaning to write this up for a while and since I can’t sleep (Hello, 6 AM) here I am. I’ll be referencing a few of the panels that ive been a part of as examples, including the Homestuck panel at AFO 2011 and the Hetalia panel at AFO 2010.

Gray Mouths
There was a lot of controversy over the whole mouth-grey thing and dying it, but someone mentioned they once had candy that turned their mouth grey [I think]. So, I looked this up and found this, http://www.prankplace.com/shop/Product/Pranks-And-Gags-at-GagWorks/Black-Mouth-Candy-3645.aspx.

If you can stand shopping for cheap Chinese shoes online, this site here offers some canvas shoes with white toe tips in all sorts of weird colours, including white for dyeing. Good for Vriska, God Tier John, Gamzee, etc. They also do a model with no toe caps but it comes in fewer colours and an all-one colour model that I’m sure is useful for someone. No idea how helpful this is, but there...

Sea Troll Fins/Ears.
They’re the same thing, right…? Aradani Studios has ears called Sea Elf Ears that are nearly perfect for $10 unpainted (which is cool since you’re wanting to make them grey anyway). I can’t link to it while mobile, but a quick google search would work. (Here they are.)

Press'n Seal instead of Freezer Paper
My sisters and I made troll shirts using the stencil tutorial but we used a sealing wrap instead of freezer paper. We live in Quebec, Canada, and freezer paper is pretty much impossible to find around here. The sealing wrap we used is called Press’n Seal and it’s a Glad product. It looks like this:
It works well and the shirts turned out good. We just printed out the logos, pressed...

Warhammer of Zillyhoo Tutorial
If anyone is thinking of making a Warhammer of Zillyhoo, I’ve compiled the WIP photos of mine into a photo-tutorial! This is a guide to making a hammer from a combination of floral foam, PVC, and plaster, and the result is a giant hammer with low-to-moderate weight and pretty good durability. The whole thing ran me about $35 in supplies (all available at a local craft or hardware store, and...

I could also take anyone from Gainesville or a town along the route from Tally to Tampa on 1-75, preferably closer to Tally so gas prices will be more evenly shared....

Dyeing shoes
Hello! About the anon who was asking about dying shoes, I did this for my God Tier John cosplay.
It was as simple as getting some yellow dye and white canvas shoes, and then following the instructions on the dye itself. For me, this meant making the dye in boiling water, and then transferring it to another bucket, but I suppose it depends on the dye you can find. You have to be sure to keep an...

Anonymous asked: I plan on cosplaying The Sufferer soon and I'm having a bit of trouble with his 'righteous leggings' outfit... Would it really be preferred to make the whole outfit one piece or would it be okay if I made just a tight shirt and pants? Anonymous asked: hi!!! I'm considering cosplaying Jade and I'm having trouble deciding on a wig. I like wigs with volume and light waves, but many Jade cosplayers seem to use straight wigs, so I'm kinda torn, I guess? What's your opinion on the matter, because I'm quite torn!

Anonymous asked: So for Nepeta cosplay, would it be acceptable to wear a green fuzzy sweater, as opposed to a more military-esque jacket? Because in my headcanon, it IS a sweater, not a jacket. So yeah, in your opinion, would the sweater be fine (as long as it's the right color), or should I go with the jacket?

Sollux glasses tips
Okies I bought a pair of cheap reading glasses from a discount clothing store , I grabbed some copic markers and some acrylic paint .
I drew round the lenses with the copic marker then I diluted some blue acrylic paint and some red acrylic paint and left them to dry for a few hours , this is a really simple way to make Sollux glasses :)

FINS FINS FINS FIIIINS!!
Okay, so, I found this really amazing Eridan cosplayer (he cosplays Equius too) and I noticed he had amazing fins. So I asked what he did to make it and he told me this:

Then we airbrushed them grey, and lightly airbrushed on the violet blush. They’re attached using a few different substances, the one which worked the best being...
